Well, hello everyone! Yeah, I know, I haven’t been posting regularly lately, but I’m going to try to post more, what with school and actually having stuff to write about.
Right now I’m pretty much screwed for the next few days. You see, today the power flickered. It wasn’t off for that long, which was probably the problem. Anyway, my two reiser4 partitions, where I keep my stuff on my two harddrives got screwed up. The one with less stuff, on the second harddrive, was fine. I could repair it easily, with no dataloss. As for the first, well, you know the lost+found folder? Well, that’s all there was, with a load of crap folders with jibberish names inside it. I managed to find my home folder in that mess, so I’m moving the stuff I value most to the second harddrive, mainly my movies, music, anime, and pictures. Once I’m done, I’ll reformat, and then reinstall gentoo. That takes a while, but not as long since I’m not doing it from stage1 this time. This time I’m starting with stage3 so I’ll be able to have a basic system up in a few hours, and from there I can just emerge anything I need, first with the X server and xfce4, and then additional programs like azureus and such. Opera’s installed “by hand” :-).
Well, I better keep working. I’ll post again soon, c ya!

Sorry to hear about the luck. I’ve heard that this can happen. You must have had some serious flickering to kill off a Reiser partition (even v4). I’m sure that’s what saved my data the last time our power did that (more often than I like), as EXT3 was no match for our power spikes.
Good thoughts about the stage 3 install. Doing stage 1 to say you did it is ok once, but its no real advantage since you can “emerge -uD world” and ge a system that’s good to go, stable, and tuned. I’d even advise a GRP install, as you’re gonna “emerge sync”a fter its all done anyways, right?

Bad luck. My hard drive physically failed on me on my file server. Lost about 10GB of downloads but oh well, I managed to scab some little hard drives and put them all together. Maybe you should get a UPS?

Yeah, I really should get a UPS. My dad’s gonna get a bunch, but he’s picky so he’s looking for one on sale. Technically, my computer SHOULD be able to boot into XFCE4 right now, but I don’t have qt compiled yet, so no Opera, and I don’t have GAIM (or xchat, for that matter) compiled yet, so no IM, so I’m compiling those right now so when I boot into gentoo, I’ll have everything :-).

So far so good. Just so you know, I removed the ajax stuff since too many spammers were getting through. Sorry.
