Wordpress 2.0 hits 1 million downloads!

I have been watching the download counter for Wordpress 2.0 and I am happy to say that as of now, it has hit 1 million downloads. Now, that doesn’t mean 1 million blogs are running WP2, but it means it’s been downloaded a million times. I personally download it once every new version, so four of those downloads are probably mine. However, I set up blogs for friends and such, so those four downloads probably created about 10 blogs. In addition, other people may download WordPress once for every blog, and others multiple times. Whether download count os a good thing or not, today is certainly a special day for WordPress.

Update: Other sites that blogged this can be found at The Blog Herald

Meh.

This entry is probably going to be short, I don’t know for sure. Firstly, I want to apologize for really letting this site go in the last few months. Actually, this whole year has been pretty slow, but I’m trying to change my ways.

You may have noticed I got rid of the tags. The whole Web 2.0 tagging thing didn’t really fit this blog, and categories were much nicer, so I just got rid of the tagging system. I never actually announced the tagging system anyway, but Firefox and IE didn’t like displaying the tags aligned right, and Announcements was the biggest tag, so I figured, wtf? I didn’t feel like tagging every post since 2002, so I just decided, screw it.

So, I got this email today. It was from “Rachel,” who I assume is a representative of the site she was asking me to promote, which was InboxJournal. I basically just explained the email in that long messy sentence right there. She emailed me, asking me to link to InboxJournal on this site. I’m assuming she was just googling and emailing the owner of every blog she could find, to get some viral marketing going on. Has anyone ever heard of that site before? I’m trying to figure out what it is. Step two is interesting, “Receive daily or weekly emails where you directly post your thoughts.” What exactly does that mean? My guess is that you send daily or weekly emails to an email address they give you, and the thoughts go into their database or on a blog sort of thing. I’m looking at one of the journals right now and it seems pretty barebones… I would think that WordPress.com or Blogger is better, but hey, Rachel, you just got your plug. For the record, I’m not gonna link somewhere without giving my truthful thoughts on the place…

Alright, so that’s all. I’m also looking for a new host. If anyone knows of any with similar plans to HostMonster or AN Hosting, let me know through a comment or by emailing me. Dreamhost is just too slow.

Oh, and by the way. If you want a Demonoid account, do not email me. I will not give random people I don’t know free demonoid accounts. Sorry.

Opera 9.01

Opera 9.01 is an Opera bugfix release that was released today. People using Opera 9.0 should upgrade to this release. From what I can tell, the Linux version is the same version as that off the latest weekly. For those of you that don’t use Opera yet and for those who need to upgrade, download it here. Have a nice day, and I hope to resume blogging sometime soon…
